Steady Witness

Privacy Policy

Effective September 1, 2026

1. Overview and controller

This Privacy Policy explains how Harris Data & AI, doing business as Mind Constructor, operator of Steady Witness, collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use our websites and application. Harris Data & AI is the controller of personal information described in this policy and can be contacted at 328 North 2830 East, St. George, Utah 84790, United States, or support@steadywitness.com. Steady Witness is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

2. Information we collect

  • Account and profile information: your email address, authentication identifiers, and profile information you choose to provide, such as your display name, first and last name, biography, time zone, profile image, accessibility choices, and Assistant preferences.
  • Your content: talk projects, drafts, outlines, questions, study reflections, private life-journal entries, source records, citations, study connections, reviews, Assistant conversations and messages, preferences, and related edits.
  • Billing information: plan, subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, billing period, and transaction status. Stripe collects and processes payment-card and billing-address details; Steady Witness does not store full card numbers.
  • Technical information: IP address, device and browser information, request and security logs, timestamps, error details, and service usage needed to operate and protect the service.
  • Support and beta feedback: messages, the Steady Witness page path you choose to include with in-app feedback, and information you send when requesting help.
  • Copyright cases: claimant and counter-notice contact information, signatures, descriptions of works and reported material, correspondence, administrator notes, and case outcomes needed to evaluate and respond to intellectual-property claims.

3. Optional AI processing

We send information to the AI model only when you deliberately invoke an AI feature. Depending on the feature, this can include a talk topic and preparation details, a study question and context, selected source metadata and notes, selected reflections, a lesson’s assignment details, central doctrine, accepted source titles and links, or relevant records that your account is authorized to access. Before the first cross-platform Assistant chat, you are asked to consent to sending your prompts, compact conversation context, relevant authorized Steady Witness content, and optional Assistant preferences to the AI model. That consent applies to later Assistant chats unless it is withdrawn through an applicable privacy request. Other AI features provide task-specific disclosure in their interface. Saved record changes occur only after your explicit action. Our current API requests are configured not to store response data at the AI model where that option is supported.

Steady Witness stores cross-platform Assistant conversations, messages, and compact summaries in your account so you can continue chats across devices. You may delete an individual chat, include Assistant history in an account backup, or delete it with workspace data, subject to the backup and legal-retention limitations described below.

4. Audio and microphone use

If you choose to record a rehearsal, your browser requests microphone permission. Rehearsal audio remains local to the active browser tab and is not uploaded to Steady Witness or sent to AI. We may store timing results you choose to save.

5. How we use information and our legal bases

We process account information, user content, essential session data, and billing status as necessary to provide the service and perform our contract with you. We process security logs, limited service diagnostics, fraud signals, and support records for our legitimate interests in protecting, maintaining, and improving the service, balanced against your rights. We process records when necessary to comply with legal obligations. Where consent is the appropriate legal basis, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

6. How we disclose information

We do not sell your personal information. We disclose information only as reasonably needed:

  • to service providers that host infrastructure, authenticate accounts, process payments, provide AI functions, monitor security, or support service operations;
  • when you direct us to send information or open a third-party resource;
  • to claimants, affected users, legal advisers, or authorities as reasonably necessary to administer copyright notices and counter-notices;
  • to comply with law, legal process, or valid government requests, or to protect rights, safety, and service security; and
  • as part of a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

Key providers currently include Amazon Web Services and Amazon Cognito, Stripe, the AI model, and GitHub.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies for authentication, session renewal, security, and application operation. Authentication tokens are stored in HTTP-only cookies so ordinary browser scripts cannot read them. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies.

8. Retention

We retain account information and user content while your account is active and as reasonably needed to provide the service. Billing, security, backup, transaction, and copyright-case records may be retained longer to meet legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, evidentiary, and operational requirements. Backup copies may remain for a limited period after deletion before being overwritten. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer reasonably needed, subject to legal obligations. You may request the current retention schedule using the contact information below.

9. Security

We use safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections, encrypted managed storage, access controls, account threat protection, web-application firewall rules, private database networking, backups, and security logging. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use a strong, unique password and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access.

10. Your choices and rights

You can review and edit much of your content in the application, export supported records, cancel a subscription through the billing portal, and sign out at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, receive portable data, withdraw consent, and appeal a denied request. You may also have a right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We may verify your identity and retain information where required by law or legitimate security, billing, or recordkeeping needs. Visit our Privacy Requests page to exercise these rights.

11. Young users

Steady Witness is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users ages 13 through 15 may use the service only with approval from a parent or legal guardian. Laws governing consent for young users differ by country; we may require additional age and guardian verification before making the service available in a particular location. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.

12. International processing

Steady Witness is operated in the United States, and information may be processed and stored in the United States and other locations where our providers operate. Privacy protections in those locations may differ from those where you live. Where applicable law requires a transfer mechanism or other safeguard, we work to use an applicable adequacy framework, contractual protection, or other lawful safeguard. Contact us to request information about safeguards relevant to your information.

13. External links

Steady Witness links to scriptures, talks, publications, and other third-party sites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the service or legal requirements change. We will post the revised effective date and provide additional notice when changes are material.

15. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, email support@steadywitness.com. Please do not include passwords, payment-card numbers, or sensitive Church membership information in your message.
